Mentoring continues during Covid19 pandemic

As an affiliation with NOMAKC, we’ve started working with Green Works KC, a non-profit organization, a year ago when they asked us to mentor one of their high school students, Brenda Martinez of Alta Vista High School last summer, 2019. Brenda interned with SAI for 4 weeks last summer as she learned REVIT and became quite good at it. Green Works KC connects with local firms willing to provide internships to local minority students and they compensate their students, not the firm.

Due to the pandemic, we couldn’t do a student summer internship this summer so we had a face to face meeting with Victoria and Eddie last month in a social distancing setting, to discuss architecture. SAI is committed to helping students, especially students of color, to introduce them to our profession and increase diversity in our field.

“Our commitment to Green Works KC’s mission began over a year ago. After the success of hosting our first summer intern last summer, we will continue our collaboration with Green Works by inspiring and cultivating our local youth with future career development opportunities that will provide a better and more diversified professional work force for our own Kansas City community.” – Phil Dougherty
